Pursuing a QQI Level 6 Communications course or module with Lir can be highly beneficial. It equips you with the necessary knowledge, skills, and competence to communicate effectively in a variety of everyday and work-related tasks, including in a supervisory capacity. This training is essential for personal development and can significantly contribute to a company's success by improving employee communication skills, leading to a more harmonious work environment and a better return on investment.

Wherever you are working, effective communications skills training is essential. For companies who send their employees on a Communications course, many see a tangible return on their investment through the development of their employees. After all, who wants ineffective communication, which can be incrementally created from habits developed over time, which has an adverse effect on the bottom line of the company? Where to you stop learning how to communicate? According to Lewis (2017) in citing Janine Driver in “You Say More Than You Think” (www.trainingindustry.com) speaks of ‘rapport’ being “a close and harmonious relationship in which the people or groups concerned understand each other’s feelings or ideas and communicate well.”

These sentiments are seen again in Morgan's (2018) Forbes Magazine article on “Why Every Employee at Your Company Should Have Communications Training”. In this article, Morgan speaks of open communication being the goal, teaching employees how to keep their emotions in check and remembering emotions, which can lead to conflict. She also mentions ‘clearer written communication’, especially in our modern digital world. She speaks about the importance of quick text messages to social media posts and emails. Strong communication skills benefit both the individual and the company, while unclear messages lead to confusion and, more than likely, unnecessary conflicts.

From a personal point of view, having been involved in training for over 30 years, I believe that if you get communications right, everything else falls into place more easily, training becomes easier to manage as it becomes organic in nature, each employee wanting to help another at the right time, trust in each other increases, training is carried out in a way that benefits each particular employee and overall, leads to a more harmonious working environment. To me, communications are the solid foundation of a building – other skills such as computer training, soft skills, and upskilling become easier as they have a solid base on which to stand, otherwise, the monies spent on training start showing cracks where the foundation is weak and in some places unstable which leads to a low ROI (Return On Investment). This module is a mandatory module on many Levell 6 QQI Major Awards and is well worth completing.
